Cleaning & Restoring Tombstones

  • Determine what kind if stone is it. The type of stone can determine what technique should be used to clean it. Most common gravestones are likely to be sandstone, slate, marble, limestone or granite.
  • Removal of mold and lichens.  First we will carefully scrape off all the existing mold and lichens using a plastic putty knife that will not scratch.

  • Thoroughly scrub (with a nylon brush) the stone with water and just a touch of Orvus (first) to remove the most obvious debris, giving the stone several clear water baths.  Next we will use another product designed specifically to clean monuments safely and also contains a biocide that inhibits the re-growth of mold and mildew for up to a year, depending the climate conditions where the stone is located.

  • Repair a broken stone if possible/feasible using epoxy specifically formulated to be used on tombstones and monuments.  Generally if the stone is broken in half, and both parts are there, we can probably help.  If the stone is broken into numerous pieces the job obviously becomes harder and less feasible.  Contact us about your stone to discuss.

  • Resetting the Stone - if your stone is tipped over, and needs to be re-set, and/or a new base needs to be created, we may or may not be able to help you depending on the severity of the problem.  This can only be done on a case by case basis, and depending upon the size of the stone, could involve heavy lifting equipment and is a service we are at this time, not prepared to offer.  We are happy to refer you to a local service in this area who can help.  Please contact us directly to discuss your special project.

  • Sealing the Stone- a specifically formulated stone sealer can be used to prevent future damage due to the elements.

  • Bronze Headstones/ Plaques- Thoroughly scrub (with a nylon brush) with water and just a touch of Orvus (first) to remove the most obvious debris, giving it several clear water baths.  Next we will use another product designed specifically to clean monuments safely and also contains a biocide that inhibits the re-growth of mold and mildew for up to a year, depending the climate conditions where it is located. We can add color to make a more modern look. We then coat with a UV/Corrosive Inhibitor.

  • Aluminum Plaques- Thoroughly scrub (with a nylon brush) with water and just a touch of Orvus (first) to remove the most obvious debris, giving it several clear water baths.  Next we will use another product designed specifically to clean monuments safely and also contains a biocide that inhibits the re-growth of mold and mildew for up to a year, depending the climate conditions where it is located. We can add color to make a more modern look. We then coat with a UV/Corrosive Inhibitor.

  • Photographic Services- a photo of your monument or plaque will be taken before the cleaning / repair, and one afterwards, of all sides.
